How to Replace a Walk-In Chiller in 3 Easy Steps
This past December (2014), Swindon Hospital was fortunate enough to be able to replace two walk-in chillers without losing any of its cooling capacity in the process. The replacement was the result of an upgrade from older 50kW units to new 65kW units capable of operating at -7°C. The project was completed over two weekends to avoid any losses in the catering department.
Large institutions such as Swindon Hospital may not necessarily need chiller hire to perform such upgrades because it has enough capacity to complete the project, without losses, over multiple weekends. However, what about a smaller company with only a single chiller on site? How do they complete a chiller replacement without loss of capacity? It comes down to a simple, three-step process:

- Step #2: Transfer Inventory – Once Icecool Trailers has delivered and set up the portable refrigeration units, the company's workers move stock from the chiller being replaced to our units. Refrigerated trailers are obviously located outdoors while walk-in rooms can be set up anywhere inside a building where there is enough space and an electrical connection. Completion of the inventory transfer enables the old chiller unit to be dismantled and replaced.
- Step #3: Transfer and Stock the New Unit – The last step in the process is to transfer inventory from our temporary facility into the new chiller and restock it as necessary. Icecool Trailers will then return to the location to pick up the unit we hired out. We do all the work so our client can focus on regular business operations.
